As a portraitist I have been a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, the
Portrait Society of Atlanta, the Portrait Institute of New York, the Providence Art Club and the Copley Society of Boston.
I teach drawing, color theory and composition and I have demonstrated portraiture in schools and art associations.
I have studied portraiture with contemporary portraitists, Frank Covino, John Howard Sanden and Daniel Greene. My
heroes in art are, to name a few, Sargent, Cezanne, Manet, Caravaggio, Sorolla, Rembrandt, Vermeer and contemporary masters,
Fairfield Porter, Lucian Freud and Wayne Thiebaud. I earned a bachelor of fine art degree from the Lyme Academy, College
of Fine Art.
I co-founded
IMAGO Gallery of Art and Fine Craft in 2003 as a non-profit cooperative committed to showcasing, supporting and promoting
the visual arts, where my work is on display continually alongside some very accomplished artists and artisans, my fellow
members. I have worked with the Art Department of the Mt Hope High School in Bristol, Rhode Island on an exhibition
of student work in Imago Gallery each winter during National Arts Month.

I opened my first studio in 1974 and began painting full time. Faces have
always been a fascination. The great portraitists inspire me. My interests have always been figurative, recording
people and the world they occupy. As a young artist I thought of the portrait as a special way to connect with fellow
human beings while pursuing my goals as a painter. I was right. I spent fifteen years sketching countless numbers
of people for a living and getting practice and knowledge from every face, while interacting with people in a very positive
way. The experience evolved into a formal portraitist career. My work has brought
me to New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, as well as Dublin, Ireland and Borgo San Lorenzo,
Italy.
Painting
people and places, as I see them, is important to me, not so much as a record of my surroundings, but as a way to reflect
and communicate what I feel about my environment. I have a sense of optimism about the beauty in life despite its difficult
circumstances. I am an artist that thrives on visual expression.
